Meaths br na binne makes lonely planet top 500

Meath’s Brú na Bóinne is one of six Irish attractions to make it onto the Lonely Planet list of the world’s top 500 must-see sights on its ultimate travel list.
The prehistoric passage tombs of Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth, a UNESCO World Heritage site came in at 224th out of the 500 best places to see on the planet.

Lonely planet writers ranked the 500 best places to see on the planet, creating the definitive bucket list for every type of traveller.
The Giant’s Causeway in Co Antrim was the highest ranking attraction in Ireland, voted as the 103rd best place to visit in the world.
Other Irish attractions to make the cut were ‘The Cliffs of Moher’ at 378, Titanic Belfast at 424, Dublin’s Trinity College at 468 and the Rock of Cashel at 497.
Fine Gael TD for Meath East, Helen McEntee, has said that the inclusion of the Brú na Bóinne in a new Lonely Planet list of the world’s must see attractions is a significant boost for tourism in Meath.
“The Lonely Planet is a hugely popular and respected voice among international travellers. The inclusion of the Brú na Bóinne in their global ‘bucket list’ of must see attractions is a fantastic recognition which can only bode well for visitor numbers to our county.
“The beauty and allure of the Brú na Bóinne is no secret to people in Meath and Ireland but its inclusion on the Lonely Planet’s top 500 world attractions will help widen its appeal internationally.
“This can only bode well for visitor numbers to Meath. Tourism is one of Ireland’s largest industries, supporting over 200,000 jobs, and it’s rebounding strongly. Under the Fine Gael led Government the sector has continued to grow and has been vital in rebuilding Ireland’s economy.'
