Local dog needs your votes to become nose of tralee

Dexter, a gorgeous husky dog owned by Megan Tierney from Nobber, has been chosen to represent Meath in the 'Nose of Tralee’ competition, organised by Pet Sitters Ireland.
After seeing details of the competition on the Pet Sitters Ireland Facebook page, Megan decided to enter her Siberian husky.
The initial stage of the competition involved a public vote and Dexter made the short-list of three from Meath who then went before the judges. Dexter was chosen to represent the county and will be up against dogs from the rest of the country in a public vote to decide this year’s 'Nose of Tralee’.
Voting is open until 18th August and Megan is appealing for the people of Meath to support Dexter.
She told how Dexter has become a very important part of the family in the past four years since getting him as a five-and-a-half month-old puppy,
“Four years ago, my mam, nanny and I made the trip to Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, where we met a little puppy, very scared and unsure of himself, who soon grew to became a gorgeous boy with a personality out of this world.
“We brought him home that day not realising that he would have such an amazing impact on our lives. Since that day, he grew in more than just size. Bit by bit, his confidence grew. To us, Dexter isn't just a dog, he's our family and we would be truly lost without him,” Megan said.
“From weekly trips to Dublin to see my boyfriend’s parents, to day trips out to the beach, parks and animal rescue fun days, wherever we go, he goes. We recently were in Galway on holidays for a week in June just gone and, of course, Dexter came along.”
Megan said there is great excitement in their house since Dexter was chosen to represent Meath. They have set up a page on Facebook called 'Dexter for Nose of Tralee 2015’ where there is a link to register your vote.

“We're looking for people to get behind him and vote. It would mean so much to us and to Dexter. The main reason why we entered him and why we thought he would make a great Nose of Tralee was because I personally feel that, with some people, huskies don’t really have a great reputation and are classed as a 'handful’
“I want to raise awareness and show people that no dog, including huskies, are a handful. People need to have time, patience and love,” Megan added.
