Children celebrate in enfield as new playground opens

The official opening of Enfield’s new state-of-the art playground was celebrated with a family fun afternoon last Saturday, 25th July.
There was a great buzz in the new playground all afternoon as children tried out the new play equipment and enjoyed a barbecue, ice-cream van and face-painters.
The local Enfield Revue members donned costumes to become superheroes for the day. Alison Mullan of the playground committee thanked Hannon’s SuperValu for sponsoring the opening event and said the day was a great success.
The playground opened the previous Saturday and Ms Mullan said, within an hour, there were over 100 children trying out the new playground and the amenity has been packed ever since.
“It’s a good way for the children to meet their friends during the school holidays and for the parents to meet,” she said.
The playground has something for all ages from toddlers right up to 12 years, including a zip wire, a junior swing, swing net and a five-seat circular swing, as well as tunnels, slides and climbing frames.
There is a also a sensory area, a two-person swing and a ‘dizzy cup’ for five children. The zip wire has proven extremely popular, as has the Saturn two-person swing as Enfield is only the second playground in Ireland to have this piece of equipment.
Enfield Playground Association was formed over five years ago and its fundraising efforts secured €35,000 towards the project, while Meath County Council provided funding of €100,000. A further capital grant of €10,000 was recently announced by Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, James Reilly.
Hannon’s Supervalu provided the site and also undertook the ground works at the site.
This is the second new playground to open in South Meath this summer. In recent weeks Trim’s newly refurbished and extended playground opened at Watergate Street and has proven extremely popular with local children.
