Swastika symbols daubed on the road at Mentrim.

Racist graffiti appears on roads in north meath

Residents of the Newtown and Mentrim areas near Drumconrath and Lobinstown are shocked and angered at racist graffiti that has been painted on local roads and walls.
Nazi Swastikas and the letters ‘KKK’ have been daubed around the area in the second such attack in a matter of months.
MEP Mairead McGuinness, who lives in the area, said there was an incident at Bigstown Hill near Newtown National School and another near Shanlis Cross, outside Ardee,
“It is extremely offensive and I have reported the matter to Meath County Council,” she said. Navan Gardai are also investigating the incident.
“I came across it while I was out walking. It took a lot of time and effort to do,” Ms McGuinness said.
“Somebody obviously got up early in the morning to do this as it wasn’t there the night before when locals were out walking and then some of us were walking the next morning and came across it.
“It is very disappointing to see something so distasteful. I don’t know what is behind it but it seems to be targeted at some people and it is just wrong,” she added.
