Meath woman dies in tunisian attack

A member of a well-known Meath family has been killed in the terrorist attack at a Tunisian holiday resort.

The woman, in her 50s and the mother of a young family, was on the beach when  a gunman opened fire on a crowded beach.

The attack in Sousse, on the eastern coast of the country, has claimed the lives of at least 28 holidaymakers .

The attack happened at two hotels in the town, which is one of Tunisia’s most popular resorts with European tourists.

It is understood that she was on holiday with her husband in Tunisia, and was on the beach when the attack happened. Her husband is not believed to have been on the beach at the time.

The Department of Foreign Affairs have opened their Consular Support Line if anybody concerned has relatives in the area (01 408 2000).

They said they are advising Irish citizens in Tunisia to 'follow the instructions of the police, tour operators, and their hotel staff'.

The Tunisian authorities have said that one assailant was killed after the attack.
