Meath woman collects 2 million lotto jackpot

A Meath woman who won last weekend’s Lotto jackpot of €2 million picked up her big cheque at National Lottery offices today. She bought a €4 Quick Pick ticket in Tesco in Drogheda. The delighted winner shed a few tears of happiness as she picked up her big cheque.

“My emotions are all over place” she said through her happy tears, “One minute I’m laughing, the next I’m crying. I’ve been awake since 2am this morning. It’s just so surreal – did this really happen? I always thought that one day I would win the Lotto, but now it’s actually happened – I’m blown away! I keep thinking ‘why me’? It’s like a dream… but it has come true! I’ve had some tough times in my life, and now I feel overwhelmed by this good fortune.”

The lucky lady, who wishes to remain private, bought her ticket in Tesco, Donore Road, Drogheda, Co Louth last Friday, and won the jackpot in the following evening’s draw. This is the first major Lotto prize winning ticket to be sold in this Tesco store.

Today’s delighted winner left National Lottery offices to spend the day celebrating with her family. “We’ll all have a treat each and I’ll buy a few things just for me!” she smiled.

In Lotto history, the total amount paid out to lucky players who bought their tickets in Louth amounts to over €93 million. The biggest win in the county was also sold in Drogheda town: Greg Smith won €9.4 million in August 2008 after buying a Lotto ticket in Newfoundwell Service Station, Newfoundwell Road, Drogheda.

Tonight, Wednesday 17 June 2015, the Lotto jackpot is a guaranteed €2 million. Play in any agent store by 7.45pm (7.40pm online) to be in with a chance to win or share in the jackpot. It could be you!
