Nature and river walk in dalgan at weekend

An exciting and interesting programme of events for the newly launched Boyne Valley Natural History Field Club has been planned for 2015. An initiative of Meath County Council and the County Meath Heritage under the auspices of the new County Meath Heritage Plan 2015-2020. The aim of the Field Club is to foster community appreciation of our natural heritage.

During 2015 the club has planned trips to a variety of habitats and landscapes in the county including woodlands, grasslands, sand dunes, peatlands and exploring the geology of Loughcrew. ‘The activities planned are educational and provide opportunities for those with an interest in natural history to learn about County Meath,’ said Cllr Jim Holloway, Cathaoirleach of Meath County Council.

The first outing will take place this Saturday, May 23rd, in Dalgan Park from 11am to 2.30pm. Ecologist Ger Clarke will lead a nature walk around Dalgan Park focusing in particular on woodland and hedgerows. Dr Declan Murray (retired Senior Lecturer, UCD) will explore water life of the Skane and Boyne River. There will be refreshments in the Columban Education Resource Room and an opportunity to view some of the collected specimens with microscopes in a mini-lab setting. No experience required and all are welcome.
