Former Meath All-Ireland captain Tommy Dowd cuts the tape to start the Darkness Into Light walk.

Over 4500 walk into the light

Over 4,500 early risers turned out for the seventh annual Darkness Into Light event in Navan at the unearthly hour of 4.15am on Saturday 9th May.
The participants, who walked or ran, completed the 5km course as dawn broke in a bid to raise much-needed funds for Pieta House and improve awareness around the importance of mental health.
According to Eugene Smyth, one of the many volunteers involved in the Navan event, the generosity of local volunteers and sponsors was overwhelming. “I would like to thank everyone who helped make Darkness into Light Navan a reality. From Navan Rugby Club for hosting the event to all residents in the local area for their understanding,” he said.
He also praised An Garda Síochána, Meath River Rescue, the Red Cross, Meath Civil Defence, Meath County Council and the Scouts for their “invaluable” contribution on Saturday morning.
