Fire contained at academy street

A number of units from Navan Fire Brigade attended a fire in a derelict building at Academy Street in Navan shortly before noon on Tuesday 5th May.

It is believed that four youths were seen exiting the premises prior to the arrival of the emergency services.

The building has been vacant since 2010 and is a known venue for anti-social behaviour.

According to one local businessperson, nothing is being done to prevent the ongoing difficulties felt by the local community and the businesses in immediate area.

It is also feared that another fire, should it happen, could destroy the good work being done in the renovated buildings adjacent to the derelict site.
