Jobless numbers continue to fall

Unemployment in Meath has plunged by 12 per cent in the last 12 months, according to the latest live register figures released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

There are now 8,488 people seeking social welfare assistance throughout the county, down 68 on February’s figures. Navan has the highest level of unemployed, at 4,286 in March, up 40 since February.

There are 1,495 unemployed in Kells, down 35 on the previous month, and 2,707 in Trim, down 73 on February’s figures.

Men dominate the live register figures, with 4,952 unemployed in March 2015 compared to 3,536 women. The CSO’s data also shows that there are 1,166 people under the age of 25 on the live register with the remaining 7,322 at 25 years of age or older.
