Donnelly olivier nomination for memphis

Kilmessan singer and actor Killian Donnelly has been nominated for an Olivier award for his role of Huey in Memphis the Musical in London's West End.

He opened in the lead role in the show last October, starring opposite the 'queen of British soul', Beverly Knight, who has also been nominateed for an award.

Killian is nominated for Best actor in a musical for his role at the Shaftesbury theatre. He  moved to Memphis direct from his hit role in The Commitments in London's Palace Theatre.

It is based in the underground nightclubs of 1950s Memphis, Tennessee, where the soul of a new era is dawning as the first incredible sounds of rock ‘n’ roll, blues and gospel are emerging into the mainstream.

Falling in love with a beautiful club singer, one young man’s vision to bring her voice and her music out of the clubs and onto the airwaves of America will fly in the face of cultural divides and spark a music revolution that will shake the world.

The credits of the St Mary's Musical Society, Navan, protege, include Tony in Billy Elliot the Musical (Victoria Palace Theatre), Raoul in The Phantom of the Opera (Her Majesty's Theatre), Enjolras in Les Misérables (Queen's Theatre), before which he understudied and played the roles of Jean Valjean and Javert, Collins in Michael Collins (Cork Opera House), Sweeney Todd (Gate Theatre, Dublin), Ethan Girard in The Full Monty (Olympia Theatre), Tony in West Side Story (The Solstice), Declan in The Wireman (Gaiety Theatre) and Rod in Singin' in the Rain (Olympia Theatre).

He appeared in concerts The Phantom of the Opera 25th Anniversary (Royal Albert Hall), Courfeyrac in Les Misérables 25th Anniversary (o2 Arena), You Should Be Dancing (National Concert Hall, Dublin) and Les Misérables (Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Isle of Wight).

Television includes Showbands (BBC), The Last Furlong (RTE), Batchelors Walk (RTE), The Tudors (BBC), The Late Late Show (RTE) and Open House (RTE).

Film includes Combeferre in Les Misérables (Working Title Films) directed by Tom Hooper, and he also took part in the Les Misérables Chorus in The 85th Academy Awards (Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles).

The Olivier winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Royal Opera House on 12th April.
