St Finian's Church in Clonard.

Walk in the footsteps of a saint in clonard

A guided walking tour of Clonard will take place at 2pm on Sunday 22nd March, beginning at the entrance to the local cemetery.
It is the first in a series of events as the people of Clonard celebrate the life of St Finian, patron saint of the Meath Diocese.
Around 520 AD, Finian founded his famous monastic school in Clonard and became known as the 'tutor of the saints of Ireland’. This monastery was among the most important religious foundations in Irish history.
This year sees the start of a five-year project with a 'Finian 1500’ committee established by members of the local parish of Clonard, Kinnegad, Coralstown and The Downs.
The inaugural walk will begin in Clonard and take in some of the sites of importance linked with St Finian.
Other events will also be held throughout the year - and the next five years - to commemorate the patron saint.
