Gerry mcentee to start surgery in navan hospital

One of the country’s leading surgeons, Meath native, Gerry McEntee begins working from Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan this week.
In a major coup for the local hospital, Mr McEntee, an eminent consultant surgeon at the Mater Hospital and former Meath senior football star, will start surgery in Navan today as part of an Ireland East Healthcare Group initiative.
The Healthcare Group, which includes the Mater Hospital and Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan is currently undertaking a pilot initiative to facilitate theatre time for general elective surgery, such as hernias and gall bladder procedures in Navan for Mr McEntee.
This pilot will involve accommodating patients from the public waiting list.
Mr McEntee is a consultant general surgeon with sub specialities in liver and pancreatic surgery.
A spokesperson said the hospital is delighted to welcome Mr McEntee, in cooperation with the Mater Hospital, to enhance elective surgical services in the hospital.
Mr McEntee and his team will be operating in Navan one day a week.
The chairman of the Save Navan Hospital Campaign, Deputy Peadar Tóibin, welcomed the news that Mr McEntee would be operating in Navan,
“He is very highly regarded and this is very good news.
“Navan is part of the Ireland East group and this is a big boost. We welcome his input,” he said,
Cllr Tommy Reilly said he was delighted that such a renowned surgeon as Mr McEntee was coming to Navan.
“It augurs well for the future of the hospital and the people of Navan.
“It is particularly good that he will be taking people off the public waiting list,” Cllr Reilly added.
As well as being a renowned surgeon, Mr McEntee, is a footballing legend in Meath, having won two senior All Ireland medals in 1987 and 1988, as well as five Leinster Senior Football Championship medals, two National Football League medals and a Centenary Cup Medal.
