Death of skryne publican

The death has occurred of Marguerite Gleeson, of O'Connell's Pub on the Hill of Skryne, famous for its depiction in the Guinness TV advertisement every Christmas.

Marguerite (nee O'Connell) was predeceased just two and a half years ago by her mother, Mary, who ran the pub until her passing, by her brother Tom, and her father, Jimmy, who was known as 'the Yankee' because he had been in America.

She died yesterday at St Vincent’s Private Hospital, Dublin, and is survived by her husband George, in-laws, relatives and friends.

Marguerite is reposing in the Fitzsimons Funeral Home, Navan today (Friday) from 4pm until 5pm. Removal tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 11.30am to St Colmcille's Church, Skryne for Funeral Mass at 12 noon, with burial afterwards at the Hill of Skryne Cemetery.
