Pedestrian crossing for clonard village

A new push-button pedestrian crossing will be installed in Clonard within the next six months.

The crossing, which is being funded by motorway operator Eurolink as part of its corporate social responsibility programme, will cost €30,000.

According to Meath West TD, Ray Butler, Eurolink has agreed to fund the traffic-calming measure in an effort to slow traffic travelling to and from the M4 motorway through the small village.

'Speeding traffic has been an issue in the village for the last number of years, particularly with kids going to school and people trying to get over to the church,' said Deputy Butler. 'There’s a lollipop lady at the school, but you take your life in your own hands trying to get across the road.'

Eurolink will submit the required funding to Meath County Council, which will then conduct a review to identify the best position for the pedestrian crossing.

Interested parties can also make submissions to Meath County Council as part of the public consultation processs, added Deputy Butler.
