Childline's Powering Kindness Ranger.

Childline appeal for powering kindness week

Electric Ireland’s Powering Kindness Week takes place until Friday 23rd January. Three charities are taking part in an attempt to win a share of the €130,000 prize fund. To help them claim the prize Childline has called on the lycra clad support of the ‘Powering Kindness Rangers’, who are hitting the streets and encouraging the nation to be kind in the name of Childline.

In 2015 Childline will receive just over 10% funding from Government, this means that they face the daunting challenge of raising an additional €3 million to keep the service open. The chilling reality for Childline is that currently they cannot answer every call; in 2014, out of approximately 600,000 calls they received, 200,000 of those went unanswered. This is why winning Powering Kindness is so important to Childline, as they continue to drive towards their goal that will see every child being heard.

Keep an eye out for Childline’s Powering Kindness Rangers over the coming week as they search out kind deeds on the streets of Ireland.

Unfortunately because the rangers don’t speak they are not available for comment, however Interim CEO, Caroline O’Sullivan had this to say: ‘Too often we underestimate the power in an act of kindness; a smile, a gentle word, a listening ear. These acts accomplish so much with the children we work with on a daily basis. Let us all be kinder to one another and during Powering Kindness Week share these acts by using the @ISPCCChildline handle and hashtag #poweringkindness, so that we can continue to be there for children and young people when they need us. A heartfelt thanks to Electric Ireland for including Childline in Powering Kindness’.

'Powering Kindness' is all about being kind and if anyone knows about kindness Childline does. It is always here for Ireland’s children and young people, in fact it is their only 24 hour listening service. It is here for the good and the bad, the happy and the upsetting times. It is a non-judgmental, empowering place that they can turn to when they have no one else to turn.

Be kind for Childline- do a kind deed; bank that deed via your social media using the @ISPCCChildline handle and hashtag #poweringkindness or via the Powering Kindness website www.poweringkindness.ie. Electric Ireland’s Powering Kindness Week will run till Friday 23rd of January.
