Met eireann issues weather warning

Met Eireann has issued a red alert for parts of the country tonight and tomorrow morning as a severe storm depression tracks eastwards just north of Ireland.

Forecasters are warning of very stormy conditions, with some severe gusts at times, particularly along the west and north coasts, accompanied by widespread heavy rain this evening, with a risk of local flooding.

Leinster counties will escape the worst of the weather but it will still be very windy with heavy showers, along with some hail and thunder. Frost and ice are possible in some sheltered places.

Tomorrow will be stormy for a time, with further severe gusts in places, but the winds will gradually moderate later in the day, Met Eireann says.
