Council gives green light for kfc

Meath County Council has granted planning permission for a KFC drive through restaurant on Brews Hill, in a decision which is expected to cause heated controversy in the town.
Scotco Eastern Ireland Limited has been granted permission for a double-height single-storey café and drive-through restaurant, along with 38 car parking spaces, vehicular signage and other works.
The permission is subject to 23 planning conditions.
A previous application for the same site was refused by An Bord Pleanala last April.
Bord Pleanala had at that time refused permission to Herbel Eastern Ireland Ltd for the proposed KFC outlet at Brews Hill, citing concerns over the design of the building, saying it didn’t fit in with the streetscape of Brews Hill.
St Josephs School had opposed both planning applicatons on the grounds that they were at the gates of the school and last month the principal, Mary Mulligan, wrote to councillors urging them to support her objections to the proposal.
She said this week she was devastated by the decision and confirmed that the school would be appealing the decision to An Bord Pelanala again.
Cllr Tommy Reilly said he was very disappointed at the decision, saying he had spent many years meeting with dfferent principals in the schools to secure an entrance at Brews Hill to alleviate the pressure of traffic at St Benildus Villas.
He also warned that the loss of parking in that area would be disastrous for business in the centre of Navan.
“It is ludicrous to grant permission there. I have no problem with KFC coming to Navan, but not in that location,” he said.
