Launching Operation Transformation 2015.

Operation transformation seeking new leaders

Do you find it difficult to keep the pounds off? Do you feel that your current weight is holding you back from achieving the things you’d like to do? Would you like 2015 to be a life changing year?

If you’ve answered yes to those questions then the Operation Transformation team would love to hear from you. Operation Transformation will return to our television screens next year for an eighth series on RTÉ One. This year, RTÉ Radio 1’s The John Murray Show returns as the radio home for the series and there will be more interactive content available on www.rte.ie

Operation Transformation presenter Kathryn Thomas put out a nationwide call  on John Murray’s radio show to find the five new leaders for the 2015 series. These leaders need to be willing to radically change their eating and exercise habits, and be prepared to inspire listeners and viewers to follow them on their journey. By the catwalk finale in February 2014 the six leaders had lost a total of 13 stone 9.5 lbs during their Operation Transformation journey.

Speaking on The John Murray Show, Kathryn Thomas said, “Last year the show seemed to go up a level again. Already we’ve got hundreds of applications. We know there’s an obesity crisis in the country, we know that it’s continuing to get worse and I think what the show does is provides a platform to see success and to really engage with five leaders who put themselves out there, show that it’s not easy at times, but the results at the end of it – all that hard work shines through. We need to tackle obesity and we need people to apply. What makes a great leader is someone who’s determined, somebody who really wants this. I’m putting a call out there – not just if you’re struggling with your weight – if you have a son or daughter, a husband or wife, a mother or father – sometimes it takes that push for people to hear it. It’s very difficult to make that decision yourself to fill in the application form and go through all the questions. We have to start tackling this obesity crisis.”

John Murray presenter said: “I am looking forward to working with the new group of Operation Transformation leaders, the class of 2015. It's clear from the experience of most of the group in 2014 that the show does what it says, helps to transform people's lives and, in turn, inspires thousands of others around the country to change their lives for the better. I should also point out that it’s not a challenge for the faint-hearted.”

Four of last year’s six leaders joined John Murray and Kathryn Thomas in studio and for a photocall afterwards in RTÉ. Deirdre O’ Donovan, Marc Gibbs, Jennifer Bonus and Siobhan McKillen gathered together to share their experiences over the past seven months since the series ended and to encourage potential new leaders to take that first step and download the application form.

This November The John Murray Show will broadcast live from a Dublin location where a final selection of 20 applicants will gather to be assessed. The show will talk to the potential leaders about their personal stories; why they think they have what it takes to be a leader for Operation Transformation; and how their weight has affected their confidence, lifestyle and wardrobe. The following week the five leaders selected to participate in the television series will be unveiled live on the radio show.

As Operation Transformation gets underway, The John Murray Show will follow the leaders’ journeys all the way to the grand finale. Along the route the OT experts will be dropping in to studio to provide the best tips and advice on calorie counting, healthy recipes, exercise and lots of other transformation topics. So stay tuned in for exclusive reveals and chats, and to find out if the leaders really are sticking to their fitness regimes and diets.
