Body found at oristown bog

A body has been discovered at Oristown bog by searchers from the Commission for the Location of Victims' Remains.

The discovery is understood to have been made earlier this morning in a bog drainage ditch by contractors who had been called in to prepare the site for forensic excavations.

The remains have not yet been formally identified and the State Pathologist's Office has been notified. However, there is a growing belief that the body is that of Brendan Megraw, one of the so-called Disappeared.

The commission have been searching the bog for the remains of Mr Megraw, from Twinbrook in Belfast, who was one of 17 people abducted, killed and secretly buried by the IRA during The Troubles.

The commission spent a week last month surveying the ground in the bog and have since been analysing the ground radar surveys in a bid to pinpoint any disturbance in the earth.
