Spirits festival launch tomorrow night

The ‘Spirits of Meath’ Festival launch event takes place in the Darnley Lodge, Athboy tomorrow at 7.30pm with mentalist, Robert Williams as the guest act who promises to scare the wits out of those in attendance!
The festival is a celebration of Halloween in the place where it began over 2,000 years ago in County Meath
The Spirits of Meath Halloween Festival is in its sixth year and offers almost 40 spooky and fun events for all the family during October, including a House of Horrors at Tayto Park; Spooky themed nights at the City North Hotel; Terrifying Treasure Trails at the Battle of the Boyne Visitors Centre; PookaSpooka during the day and spine-tingling nights at Causey Farm; and a spooktacular horror experience at Grove Gardens.
There is something for everyone at the Spirits of Meath Festival this Halloween with ‘scarily’ good accommodation offers and lots of the events are free of charge.
John V Farrelly, Chairperson of Meath Tourism said, “It is fantastic to see our Boyne Valley Tourism members working in unison and promoting their Halloween events as part of the ‘Spirits of Meath’ Festival.”
Samhain the ancient Celtic Festival that we now call Halloween originated more than 2,000 years ago on the Hill of Tlachtga now known as the Hill of Ward near Athboy.
Samhain marks the end of the old Celtic Year and the beginning of the New Year. Tlachtga Samhain Festival which is part of the Spirits of Meath Festival will take place on Friday 31st October and will be led by local historian, Joe Conlon.
It includes a reenactment of the Samhain Festival from over 2,000 years ago, saying goodbye to summer, thanking the gods for the year gone by and asking them for good health and fortune for the year ahead.
The historic Hill of Tlachtga will be lit up with fire as you make your way up past the Druid well where words of wisdom for the year to come will be imparted, pipers and drummers will lead you to the Samhain fire. People from 19 countries travelled to County Meath last year to experience and celebrate this ancient ritual.
