Recently retired summerhill pp fr gavin dies

The death has occurred of the retired parish priest of Summerhill, Fr TP Gavin.

The Dalystown, Mullingar, native had been in ill health for some time and retired as parish priest this summer, when he was succeeded by Fr Michael Meade. He passed away at Mullingar General Hospital, pre-deceased by his parents William and Margaret, his sister Mary Murtagh and brother-in-law Billy.

He is much loved and deeply missed by his brothers, John, Laurence, Maurice, Malachy and Mark, his sisters Anne Fallon, (Rochfortbridge) and Siobhan O'Donovan (Kilkenny), brothers-in-law Bernard and Eugene, sisters-in-law Nuala, Sheila, Bernie, Marie and Mary, his beloved nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews, his godchild Rachel, cousins, relatives and a large circle of good friends, the Bishop of Meath, the Most Rev Dr Michael Smith, priests of the Meath diocese and his parishoners.

His remains are reposing in the Church of the Assumption, Coole, Summerhill today,  with removal  to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Dangan, Summerhill arriving at 7 o'clock Wednesday. Requiem Mass is on Thursday at 12 o'clock. Burial takes place afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
