New culinary experience in trim

A new culinary experience has been launched in Trim to help people learn new cookery skills, taste new food and make new friends.

The People's Kitchen is the brainchild of Trim natives Conor Murphy, David Farrelly and Fiona Challoner Malone, as guests are treated to an evening of cooking and dining at local restaurant, The Stockhouse.

According to Fiona Challoner Malone, it's a new dining experience that's both fun and educational.

'Having a meal in The People's Kitchen will be like no other dining experience you’ve had before,' she said.

'You get to play a role in preparing the meal, learning new skills and having some fun along the way.

'You will, of course, get to taste new foods and compare different recipes,' she said.

After the initial meeting and greeting, guests are divided up into teams of four or five.

Following a demonstration by head chef John Rudwick, the groups select the ingredients required and begin preparing their three-course meal.

There is a competitive element to the evening also, as the chef secretly scores the teams during preparation on everything from preparation to presentation. As each course is prepared, restaurant staff then whisk the goods away for cooking.

Following a demonstration on deserts and some nutritional advice from nutritionist Conor Murphy, participants then set the table and sit down to sample their dishes.

The People's Kitchen has hosted a number of themed nights to date, including Mexican, Italian and Spanish tapas. The next on the schedule is 'healthy eating' on Tuesday 30th September.
