The scene at Claremont Estate on Wednesday night.

Four homes destroyed by fire in Navan

Four houses in a Navan housing estate were severely damaged by a major fire on Wednesday evening.

The fire broke out shortly after 8pm in Claremont Estate on the Commons Road. It is understood the fire broke out in the roof area of one of the homes and quickly spread to the other three in the terrace.

All the houses - which were occupied at the time - were safely evacuated and fire crews from Navan, Trim and Kells tackled the outbreak, remaining on the scene till the early hours of Thursday morning.
