'My Adventure' theme in Doodle 4 Google

For the sixth year running, Google is calling on children across Meath to get doodling for this year’s annual Doodle 4 Google competition.

This year’s theme is ‘My Adventure’ and children are being encouraged to let their inner adventurer run wild and get creative with the Google logo. The winning doodle will be announced on March 24th and will then appear on the Google Ireland homepage for 24 hours where it will be seen by millions of internet users.

Once again, the student of the winning doodle will receive a €5,000 scholarship towards their third-level studies. In addition, the winning student’s school will receive a €10,000 technology grant. Also, each of the five category winners and their teachers will receive Chromebooks.

John Herlihy, Head of Google Ireland said: “Inspiring young people’s creativity and encouraging them to use their imaginations is something that is very important to Google. For this year’s competition we have chosen the theme ‘My Adventure’, so whether it’s exploring outer space, climbing Mount Everest or just experiencing adventures in the playground, we can’t wait for this year’s entrants to take us on their adventure with their own interpretation of the theme.”

A panel of judges from the worlds of art, education and tech will be tasked with the job of narrowing down the thousands of entrants to 75 finalists, 15 from each of five categories:

·        Class Group 1 – Junior Infants, Senior Infants

·        Class Group 2 - 1st Class, 2nd Class

·        Class Group 3 – 3rd Class, 4th Class, 5th Class, 6th Class

·        Class Group 4 – 1st Year, 2nd Year, 3rd Year

·        Class Group 5 – Transition Year, 5th Year, 6th Year, Youthreach

The 75 finalists will then have their doodles displayed on the Doodle 4 Google website and the general public will be able to vote for their favourite doodle. The winners of each category will go forward to a Grand Final event where the overall winner, as chosen by the official Google doodle team, will be announced.

The deadline for entries is December 13th 2013. For more information on the competition please visit www.google.ie/doodle4google/. Doodle 4 Google also offers a series of lesson plans to help students with their doodle submissions and assist teachers in integrating this competition into their curriculum.
