Elaine is Meath's Queen of the Land

Elaine Holton from Longwood Macra na Feirme Club is to travel to Tullamore, Co Offaly to take part in the 49th Queen of the Land festival next week.  Elaine is a Secondary Teacher her hobbies include music, outdoors, and camping.

The Queen of the Land sponsored by FBD in partnership with The Farmer’s Journal takes place from the 8th to 10th November in Tullamore. The 49th festival sees 27 Queens participating representing Macra na Feirme counties and regions throughout Ireland and overseas.

Over three event packed days they will be appraised by a distinguished judging panel who will take into account appearance, personality, energy, confidence, dress sense, rural knowledge and elocution to choose the contestant which best exudes the qualities of today's modern rural woman.

The 2013 judging panel are: Amanda Brennan (Representative of FBD Insurance) Teresa Brennan, reigning FBD Queen of the Land 2012 and Damien O'Reilly, RTE Radio One Presenter.

The official opening of the Festival takes place at 8pm on Friday 8th November in the Bridge House Hotel, Tullamore. Ireland’s top comedian Bernard O’ Shea will belive on stage at 9.30pm, followed by Disco until late. Tickets at €15, available from the Bridge House Hotel.

The Queens will face interviews with the judging panel in the Bridge House from 8am on Saturday 9th November. The group travels to Hugh Lynch’s Bar in the afternoon where they will be introduced to their escorts. The Queens will be put through their paces by MC Deric Hartigan for the onstage interviews. These begin at 8pm sharp in the Bridge House Hotel. Music by Ruaille Buaille and Deuces Wild, entry €15 at the door.

The Gala Banquet takes place at 7pm on Sunday 10th November at the Bridge House Hotel. The announcement and crowning of the 2013 Queen of the Land sponsored FBD in partnership with The Farmer’s Journal will take place at 12pm. Music by Robert Mizzell, tickets €50 from Bridge House Hotel.
