The official launch of Leinster Rugby’s Bank of Ireland Treble Trophy Tour took place with a visit to Newbridge PPS (post primary school), Co Kildare. Newbridge will be the first school in Leinster to receive the three trophies - Amlin Challenge Cup, RaboDirect PRO12, British and Irish Cup, on their provincial wide tour.
Supported by Bank of Ireland the Treble Trophy Tour launch day kicked off with some photography, fun games and a questions and answers session with Leinster academy player James Tracey. A special visit from Leo the Lion was welcomed also by Newbridge PPS as he challenged pupils to a game of tag rugby!
Over 300 schools are expected to receive the Treble Trophies from September until April and Leinster are asking schools in Meath not yet registered to email, email@example.com, if they are eager to receive the trophies on their travels; turning their school Leinster blue.
Elma Beirne, domestic marketing at Leinster Rugby said: “We are delighted that so many schools have confirmed to take part in our trophy tour to date and we would like to thank Bank of Ireland for their support in making this tour possible. We’re hoping that those who haven’t had the trophy in their school as yet to get in touch so we can visit as many schools as possible on the tour. Leinster Rugby’s success to date is down to the support it receives by rugby enthusiasts from primary level upwards. We hope to grow this support across Meathby encouraging interest in rugby across the province, resulting in an even better Leinster team in the years to come!”
Last year’s tour was a huge success with the Heineken cup visiting over 500 schools and approximately 115,000 people over the seven month tour. Schools all over the province turned their classrooms Leinster blue to see the Heineken trophy come through their very doors. This year, with the tour comprising of new trophies, Leinster are expecting to see a similar level of exposure to all areas of the province.
