Labour cllr jumps ship to FF

Meath Labour county councillor Jenny McHugh has switched party allegiance to Fianna Fáil.

Cllr McHugh, who is also the principal of St Stephen's National School, Johnstown, announced her decision this afternoon.

Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin has welcomed Cllr McHugh into Fianna Fáil following her decision to resign from the Labour Party.

He said: “I am particularly pleased to welcome Cllr Jenny McHugh to the party.  Jenny is a hard-working and energetic councillor with deep roots in her community and a strong commitment to education and social justice. She is a valuable addition to our team in Meath.'

Cllr McHugh said Fianna Fáil matched her own personal values. 'Over the last three years, it has become increasingly clear to me that the party which most closely share those values that I have is the Fianna Fáil party, under its leader, Micheál Martin,' she said.
