Property Tax protest in Ashbourne on Saturday

Sinn Féin's Meath East spokesperson, Darren O'Rourke, has called on people to come out and support the 'People's Protest' against the Property Tax to be held at 1pm on Saturday 25th May outside Ashbourne Civic Offices.

Mr O'Rourke said: 'Though Sinn Féin have organised this event we have deliberately kept party politics out of it because we know there are supporters of all parties and none that oppose this unfair tax.'Having attended public meetings in Ashbourne and elsewhere it is clear that there is widespread anger out there, including from many people who have already reluctantly paid the charge. On Saturday, we hope to create an opportunity for all those people, and for anyone else who opposes this property tax, to demonstrate just that.

'The protest will take place at 1pm at the Civic Offices/Library in Ashbourne and comes just days before the final close of registration. We need to send a clear message to Government that enough is enough, that people cannot afford to pay this tax and that those on very high wages should be asked to contribute their fair share.'
