No saving Ryan in Malmo

Another Ryan needed saving last night as Ireland finished last on five points in the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmo where Denmark's Emmelie de Forest stormed to victory singing Only Teardrops (see short video clip).

The 20-year-old singer won the 58th Eurovision ahead of Ukraine in second place and Azerbaijan in third.

Ireland scored just five points after receiving votes from three countries and in sporting terms - should be relegated.

“Unfortunately luck just wasn’t on our side tonight. Obviously it’s really disappointing, but I feel I gave it my best shot,' commented the singer from Strabane.

Ryan is mentored by Stuart O’Connor of Navan-based Spotlight Stage School, and managed by Navan man Conor Mulhall of Savee Entertainment, based in Ludlow Street.

The legendary Bonnie Tyler performed for the UK, but didn't make an impact either.
