A new name will be going over the office in Duleek

Arian Keogan fills vacant council seat

Meath County Council has a new member, after independent Arian Keogan from Main Street, Duleek was co-opted to the council by vote to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of independent councillor Seamus O'Neill in September. Mr O'Neill announced his resignation from the council in early September, citing pressure of work as a publican and undertaker, along with the responsibilities as a councillor. He said that he could not give the people of Meath the required commitment that was needed. He had nominated his partner, Sharon Keogan, mother of the newly-coopted councillor, as his replacement on the council, but she was found to be ineligible to fill the seat of a departing independent councillor. Thanking the members, Cllr Keogan said that it was a very proud day for him and his family. He also thanked Seamus O'Neill for his dedication and hard work during his time as a member. He said that although he was young, he had had experience of the workings of the Seanad and the European Parliament. He said that the office established by Mr O'Neill in Duleek for the people of the electoral area would be kept in operation so as to maintain the service to the community.
