EirGrid to part pay NEPP pylon hearing costs

EirGrid has agreed to partially compensate the North East Pylon Pressure campaign group NEPP, as a gesture of goodwill, and without any admission of liability whatsoever on the part of EirGrid, in relation to some of the costs incurred by NEPP at the 2010 oral hearing into the Meath-Tyrone 400kV interconnector. EirGrid withdrew its planning application for the North-South interconnector project in June 2010. NEPPC requested that Eirgrid be held accountable for this decision, including the payment of all NEPPC reasonable costs related to the Oral Hearing. 'As far as NEPPC is concerned this brings to a close the sorry saga of EirGrid's withdrawal from the An Bord Pleanála oral hearing in 2010' stated Aimée Treacy, chairperson of NEPPC. 'Undergrounding is the most affordable, acceptable and realistic solution for the future' Aimée further stated. NEPPC will be holding landowner and public meetings in October to update its supporters on all of the latest developments and next steps planned.
