Navan teachers vocal in support of parents' primary school protest

Angry parents turned out in force on Friday morning to protest at education cuts that will see St Joseph's Mercy Primary School in Navan lose five teachers next September. As pupils arrived for their last day of school before the Easter holidays, a large group of parents gathered outside the school gates with posters and placards urging Education Minister Ruairi Quinn to reverse the cuts. An appeal against the axing of the teaching posts will be heard by the Department of Education's appeals board on 18th April and the entire school community is anxiously awaiting the outcome. Teachers in the school have also come out in support of the parents' protest and representatives have said that the cuts will impact on every child in the school.
