No Golden Globes joy for Byrne

Brian Byrne from Navan and his co-writer, actress Glenn Close, were pipped by Madonna at the Golden Globe awards on Sunday night in Los Angeles. They were nominated for their song 'Lay Your Head Down' from the film 'Albert Nobbs', in the best original song in a movie category. The lyrics are by Close, who scripted the film, with music by Byrne, and the song is performed by Sinead O'Connor in the movie. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association's annual Golden Globe Awards ceremony took place on Sunday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. 'Masterpiece', from the movie 'WE', Madonna's directorial debut, is written by Madonna, Julie Frost and Jimmy Harry. Other songs in the same category were: 'Hello Hello' from 'Gnomeo & Juliet' with music by Elton John and lyrics by Bernie Taupin; 'The Keeper' from 'Machine Gun Preacher' by Chris Cornell, and 'The Living Proof' from 'The Help', by Thomas Newman, Mary J Blige, Harvey Mason Jr, and Damon Thomas. 'Lay Your Head Down' is on an Academy Awards long list and Byrne will learn later this month if it will be nominated for an Oscar.
