First fíor chéilí in Kilskyre for 40 years

The newly formed branch of Cairde Rince Céilí na hÉireann in Kilskyre, Craobh Bhriain Uí Uiginn, held its first fíor chéilí in Kilskyre Hall last Friday night.

The event surpassed the expectations of the organising committee with people travelling from all over County Meath as well as Louth, Cavan, Monaghan, Dublin, Roscommon and Westmeath to support the first fíor chéilí in Kilskyre in approximately 40 years.

Club chairperson Aidan McCabe was 'fear an tí' for the night and music was supplied by the very popular Tara Céilí Band. Other committee members who were very active on the night and in the preparations for the event were Agnes McCabe, Anne Marie Grall, Mary Smith, Margaret Byrne, Mary Morris and Kate Brady.

Aidan McCabe thanked all the committee members as well as teacher and national chairman of Cairde Rince, Tom Marry. Mr Marry complimented the Kilskyre club on its success in organising their first fíor chéilí and weekly classes and also for calling the club after local poet and promoter of all things Irish - the late Brian " hUiginn.

The last adult céilí dancing class in Kilskyre before the summer take place this week. Meanwhile, the new adult class in the gaelscoil in Dunshaughlin is going from strength to strength and continues every Monday night at 8.30pm. Newcomers are welcome every week.
