Green Flag raised at Kells school

Eureka students raise their Green Flag.
Mairéad McGuinness, MEP for Meath and Ireland East, officiated at the raising of the Green Flag at Eureka Secondary School, Kells, recently.
The Green Flag recognises the school's environmental work. The project centred on litter management, recycling and planting. The next stage is energy efficiency and water conservation.
The Drumconrath-based MEP was so impressed with the work done in the school that she surprised everyone by inviting the Green Schools Committee to Brussels to the European Parliament to increase their awareness of the European dimension of their work.
Meanwhile, Megan Barry and Hannah Harcourt Thewlis, second year students from Eureka, took part in Sustainable Energy Ireland's 'One Good Idea' project.
Their topic was 'Everyday Energy Savings in the Home and School', which is very apt in these recessionary times. It entailed researching and presenting an interactive presentation to the fourth classes in the local primary schools in Kells and they ran a competition with the classes to increase awareness.
They also met and spoke with Mairead McGuinness on energy and biodiversity.
