Trim well preserved following street works
An ancient well that was discovered during refurbishment works on Trim's Loman Street has been preserved and a clear toughened glass cover has been placed over the well so that pedestrians can view it. The well is in the footpath close to the entrance to Sarsfield Avenue and it is believed that it was one of the town wells used for domestic supply. A pump on the street replaced it and this pump is now also gone. The town council is to erect a plaque to mark the location of the well. There were at least two other wells in the town - one on Castle Street and an abbey well near Blackfriary. There were also two wells upriver on the banks of the Boyne - the one on the north side was St Patrick's Well to where a pilgrimage now takes place each 17th March and the one on the southside was St George's Well. It is thought that these may have been holy wells rather than domestic wells.
