Tractor goes up in flames in Kells


Firefighters tackling the tractor fire at Moynalty Road, Kells, last Thursday.

A tractor driver escaped without injury last Thursday when the tractor he was driving burst into flames on the Moynalty Road in Kells.

The fire broke out shortly after 2pm outside Cole's Supermarket in the town. The driver jumped from the John Deere vehicle and tried to extinguish the flames with a fire extinguisher immediately following the outbreak.

Two units of the local fire service attended the scene and Gardai diverted the traffic along part of the new M3 for a short period as the fire was dealt with.The tractor was completely destroyed in the blaze and a trailer it was pulling also suffered damage.

Kells Gardai are treating the outbreak as accidental.
