Culmullen NS pupils in back pack initiative
CULMULLEN National School, Drumree, was recently invited by the charity Mary`s Meals Ireland to take part in its Back Pack school-based initiative.
This project is a simple way of helping children from very poor families in countries like Malawi to go to school. It does so by inviting school pupils to fill up an old backpack with everyday school items such as rulers, jotters
pencils and such. The backpacks are collected and shipped to schools in Third World nations to be given out to children who really need these supplies to
attend school.
Last year, the Back Pack project gave out over 30,000 bags to children who were in desperate need of the most basic school supplies. The children of Culmullen NS took part in the project with great enthusiasm and were very pleased to be able to help change the lives of underprivileged children.
Culmullen NS is currently busy preparing for its own school fundraiser, the annual chase which takes place on Sunday 4th November at 1pm, starting from
Culmullen Church. Adult and junior riders are welcome. Cost is €30 per adult and €20 per junior.
