John Joe Jordan, Skryne

The sudden death of John Joe Jordan, of Greenpark, Dunshaughlin, on 27th May last, was a source of considerable shock and sadness. Aged 64, he passed away at Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan.

Tyrone native Mr Jordan, who worked in the construction industry, was married to local woman Eilish Clarke, and their family was deeply involved in sporting activities in Skryne parish, where they live, with eldest sons Jamie and Mark playing prominent roles with the senior team.

John and Eilish attended the Meath Rehab People of the Year Awards ceremony in Kells last November to pick up an award for their New York-based daughter, Alisha, who captained that city’s Cavan ladies football team to victory in the Ladies GFC championship there, having recovered from a violent attack on her a year earlier, which left her seriously injured.

He is survived by Eilish and family Jamie, Mark, Colleen, Johnathon, Alisha and Aaron; brother, sisters, sister-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.

The funeral took place from St Colmcilles Church, Skryne, with burial afterwards in adjoining cemetery, where his remains were led to their final resting place by a lone piper, with his cofin draped in his native Tyrone jersey.

Eamonn Tuite Snr, Oldcastle

The death of Eamonn Tuite Snr, Rathmae, Oldcastle, on 21st April last, was the source of widespread shock and regret. Aged 62, he passed away suddenly.

Eamonn was a well known, popular and well loved character. He was very heavily involved in the St Brigid’s GAA Club in Ballinacree all his life. From playing, to a selector, down to keeping the pitch, Eamonn was not afraid to get his hands dirty.

He will be remembered in the lives of the many people around Oldcastle he came in contact with. He also enjoyed the banter and craic over a pint, and was very gifted with his hands. He was always willing to give a hand and give advice to his colleagues in Briody Bedding.

Eamonn’s memory will live on in all those who knew him, and he will be remembered for his funny and witty humour. He will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father and doting grandfather, a friendly and helpful neighbour.

He is survived by his wife, Bridget (nee Gilsenan); sons, Eamonn Jnr and Patrick; Nicola; grandchildren, Éabha and Cara; brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

The funeral took place from St Bridget’s Church, Ballinacree to the adjoining cemetery.

James Griffin, Trim

The passing of James (Jimmy) Griffin, Mornington Heights, Trim, on 6th April last, at Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan, was the source of widespread sadness. Aged 68, he was a native of Kells.

Jimmy was born on Circular Road, Kells to Tommy and Lucy Griffin on 18th September 1945, the eighth of their 10 children. He went to work for Andy Doyle in his garage when he was 14 and from there he went on as an apprentice painter with the Tormey brothers and the McManuses in Kells. He was a member of the FCA of which he was extremely proud. He left Kells for Dublin where he work with Bus Eireann for a time. However, most of his life was spent as a self employed painter and decorator, employing several men.

He visited Kells and his parents and family frequently and would always ask for news from his home town. Jimmy was an avid reader, loving politics, history and geography. He had an excellent intellect.

He was a keen Meath supporter and a big fan of country and western music and loved to dance.

Deceased was a kind man with a big heart and will be missed enormously by his wife, children, grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Eileen, originally from Donabate, Co Dublin; daughters, Ciara, Sinead, Maria and Shauna; grandchildren, Sean, Nessa, Aoife, Dan, Sinead and Louisa; sons-in-law, sisters, Gabe, Cepti and Eileen; brothers, Francie, Joe, Kieran, Gerry, and Aidan; nephews and nieces, including Carina Luddy; neighbours and friends.

He was predeceased by his brother, Dessie.

The funeral Mass took place from St Colmcille’s Church, Kells, to St Colmcille’s Cemetery.

 

James McDonnell, Navan

 

There was widespread sadness following the sudden death of James (Shamie) McDonnell, Balreask, Navan, on 6th June last, at Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan.

A native of Balreask, he was aged 88.

Shamie worked for builder Cormac Murray of Ardsallagh for 28 years. He also had a love of gardening and produced a beautiful array of flowers, and grew all his own vegetables. He enjoyed music greatly, and played the accordian.

Shamie was a very caring, loving and devoted father and grandfather. A kind and gentleman, he made everybody feel welcome in his home, and saw the good in everyone. He had a great sense of humour, always telling jokes and having a laugh.

He was predeceased in August 2012 by his wife, Anne, and by his son, Padlo, in October 1983.

Deceased is survived by his son, Richard (Scobie), Balreask; grandson, Laurence (Larry); special friend, Brenda, whom he treated like a daughter; Louise and Chloe, whom he treated as his granddaughters; sister-in-law, Rita; nieces, Geraldine, Lillie, Bernie, Lorraine, Breda, Ann, Marie, Rose, Josie, Kathleen, and Peggy; nephews, Tommy, Len, Austin, Martin, Michael, David and John; and his dear friend, Michael; grandnieces, grandnephews, relatives and friends.

The funeral took place from St Mary’s Church, Navan, to St Mary’s Cemetery.  

May McCormack, Navan

There was widespread sadness following the passing of May McCormack, Follistown, Navan, at the age of 92, at her residence. A native of Follistown, she was daughter of the late Hugh and Mary Briody and was predeceased by her husband, La, in December 2012, and her brother, Jim, in April 1995.

A devoted wife and mother, she was a lover of gardening and flowers, and used her knitting and sewing talents to great effect. May was a member of Johnstown ICA Guild. She is survived by her sons, Seamus and Eugene, Follistown; daughter-in-law, Maura; grandchildren, Mark, Ciara and Aoife; sisters, Brigid Wogan, Davidstown, Slane and Cissie Casserly, Moyaugher, Cortown; nephews; nieces; relatives and friends.

The funeral took place from the Church of the Nativity of Our Lady, Johnstown, to St Mary’s Cemetery, Navan, on 26th May, celebrated by Fr Michael Cahill, PP, Johnstown, assisted at the burial by Fr Declan Hurley, Adm, Navan.  

Christina Dunne, Kinnegad

 

Widespread regret was caused by the passing of Mrs Christina Dunne, Colehill, Kinnegad, at the age of 83, at Tullamore Regional Hospital, on 14th May last.

She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas, in 2001, and is survived by her daughter, Geraldine Ferrarelli, Colehill; sons, John, Colehill; Martin, England; Gerard, Mullingar; and Declan, Mullingar; extended family, relatives and friends.

The funeral took place from the Church of the Assumption, Ballinabrackey, to Kilkeran Cemetery. 

Patrick Vaughan, Castletown

There was great sadness following the death of Patrick Vaughan, Clooney, Castletown, Navan in Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan on 1st April last, aged 92. A native of Liscannor, Co Clare, he moved to Clooney, Castletown where he lived for the past 60 years. He married Maisie in 1954 and they had eight children.

He will be fondly remembered as being a very hardworking, sociable man with a great sense of humour. He loved the farming lifestyle and he was very active until shortly before his death. He will be sadly missed by all his family, friends and neighbours.

He was predeceased by his wife, Maisie, in 2012.

He is survived by his sons, Michael and John; daughters, Bridy, Margaret, Helen, Claire, Carmel and Nora; daughter-in-law; sons-in-law; grandchildren; great grandchildren and extended family.

The funeral took place from St Patrick’s Church, Castletown KP, to the local cemetery.

Robert Lang, Lucan and Kilskyre

The death occurred peacefully following a short illness of Robert (Robbie ) Lang, Liffey Valley, Lucan and formerly of Boltown, Kilskyre, and Carrick Street, Kells, at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, on 30th May last, aged 56.

Robbie will be remembered as a kind, caring and hardworking man whose life was cut short too early.

He lived for many years in London and in recent years returned to Dublin, working in the landscaping business where his work was highly respected and admired.

Speaking at his funeral Mass, Fr Liam Malone, CC, acknowledged Robbie’s wishes that his organs be donated to help save the lives of others were a wonderful way in which his life continues on in others.

Deceased is survived by his brother, Shane; step-father, Dominic; aunt, Margaret; nephews, nieces, and a large circle of friends.

His mother, Nora, passed away just 10 weeks ago.

The funeral took place from St Colmcille’s Church, Kells, to St Colmcille’s Cemetery, where he was laid to rest beside his grandmother, Molly.

 Breda Flattery, Enfield

The death has occurred of Breda Flattery (nee O’Brien) of Enfield. Originally from Broadford, Co Kildare, she was a well know publican in the Enfield community for over 50 years. She had been ill for some time and died on the 6th June at the Sancta Maria Nursing Home in Kinnegad.

The large crowds present throughout her funeral obsequies reflected the esteem in which she was held by those with whom she came in contact with. She took a huge interest in everybody, young and old.

Pre-deceased by her husband Martin, and her sons Gerry and Charlie, she is survived by her daughter Mary White and her sons, Joe, Martin and John; her sister, Joan Flanagan; extended family and friends.
