Dinah McMahon, Castletown

The sudden death of Dinah McMahon, Brookfield House, Leggagh, Castletown, Navan occurred on 6th March last while on a visit to Perth, Western Australia, causing great sadness. Aged 60, Dinah (nee Leegan) grew up in Rocktate, Killanny, Carrickmacross, the third eldest of a family of eight.

Deceased worked as a nurse all her life until she retired in 2013. She started her general training in Drogheda for three years and then went onto Glasgow for midwifery training for one year. She then returned to Drogheda and worked as a General Nurse for 17 years. Dinah later smoved to St Joseph’s Hospital in Ardee, from where she retired in 2013. She made some very good friends there.

Dinah was a very compassionate person and would go above and beyond her call of duty to help others in need. She was a brilliant nurse and she will be sadly missed by all the people she touched throughout her nursing career.

She worked exceptionally hard throughout her life to build up a loving home for her family. As a homemaker, she adored cooking using fresh ingredients and vegetables from her own garden. She took pride in seeing her garden flourish each year. The kitchen was really the heart of the home and Dinah loved nothing more than having friends and family over for dinner.

The house which she built in 2008 with husband, Robert, truly reflects her great taste in furnishings and antiques which she lovingly decorated throughout the rooms of the house.

Dinah will be remembered as a kind, caring and beautiful woman, and the large attendance at her removal and funeral saw many stories about her shared with her family. She is survived by her husband, Robert; daughters, Jeannine, Bobby-Anne, Stephanie, Katie and Shannon; mother, Nancy; siblings, Fran, Josie, Veronica, Patrick, Gerard, David and Joanne; mother-in-law, Kathleen McMahon; sister-in-law, Geraldine Brady; extended family, relatives and friends.

The funeral took place on 20th March from St John the Baptist Church, Kilberry, to Gibbstown Cemetery celebrated, by Fr John O’Brien, PP, assisted by Fr Finian Connaughton, Drumconrath, and Fr Patrick McEnroe, Dromiskin.

 

Patsy Griffin, Carlanstown

There was widespread shock and sadness following the untimely death on 13th April last of Patsy Griffin, Drakerath, Carlanstown, Kells at his residence, aged 56.

Deceased built up a thriving business as a small building contractor, and the company is now run by his sons. He loved meeting people, getting to know them, and anyone he met never seemed to forget him.

Patsy was a very proud and thankful member of Alcoholics Anonymous. They helped him when he needed it most, and in turn, he helped so many along their road to recovery.

He was predeceased by his father, Pat, in November 2004, and only last November by his mother, Delia.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine; sons, Allen, Carlanstown, Paul, Drakerath, Paraic, Carlanstown, Colin, Carlanstown, and Keith, Australia; daughters, Michelle, Drakerath, and Louise, Drakerath; grandchildren, Caoimhe, Darragh and Kyle; brother, Sean, Florida; sisters, Barbara, Clooney, Carlanstown; and Mary, Nobber; extended family and friends.

The funeral took place from Fletcherstown Church to Staholmog Cemetery, celebrated by Fr Martin McErlean, PP, assisted by Fr Seamus Houlihan, PP, Nobber.

Rose Callaghan, Trim

There was considerable regret following the death on 25th April last of Rose Callaghan, Haggard Street, Trim, at Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan, aged 84.

A native of Trim, she was daughter of the late Peter and Jane Tully and was also predeceased by her husband, John; brother, Peter; and sister, Margaret.

She is survived by her sons, John, Michael and Brian; daughter, Pauline; son-in-law, Paul; daughter-in-law, Angela; grandsons, John and Alan, great grandchildren, Niamh and Sean; brothers, Paddy and Jim; sisters-in-law, Pauline and Bridie; extended family and friends.

Deceased was laid to rest at Newtown Cemetery following a funeral service at St Patrick’s Church, Trim.

Margaret Palmer, Dunboyne and Wicklow

Margaret Palmer, The Scalpe, Enniskerry, Co Wicklow, who has died, was a member of the Kelly family of the Fingal House, Dunboyne.

She was daughter of the late Tod and Winifred Kelly of the Fingal House, and was married to Francis Palmer.

She died on 12th April last at St Vincent’s Hospital, Elm Park, Dublin, aged 65.

Margaret will be remembered as a much-loved wife and homemaker, who enjoyed gardening, reading, and travel, and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Francis; son, Damien, Doneadea, Co Kildare, daughter-in-law, Fidelma; grandchildren, Caoimhe, Cormac and Saidhbh; brothers, Fintan and Laurence, sister, Ann; extended family, relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service took place at St Mochonog’s Church, Kilmacanogue, Co Wicklow, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Anne Gaffney, Carlanstown

 There was great sadness following the passing on 6th April last at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, of Anne (Annie) Gaffney, Carlanstown, Kells.

Annie (nee Normoyle), was a native of Burren, Ballynacally, Ennis, Co Clare, and came to Meath to work 67 years ago where she met her husband, Owen.

She was a wonderful wife and mother, had many interests and lived life to the full. Deceased was a devoted Catholic. She enjoyed bingo, social events and was a big follower of the GAA.

She was honorary president of St Michael’s GFC and rarely missed a game. She was also a great supporter of the Meath football team but she never forgot her native county Clare and was overjoyed when Clare won the Liam McCarthy Cup in 2013. She was very much loved by young and old in the community and will be sadly missed by all.

Annie was predeceased by her husband, Owen, in August 1987, and is survived by her sons, Sean, Kilbeg, Barney, Kells, Tommy, Carlanstown, Jimmy, Kells; daughters Anne Lally, Gibbstown, Mary Halpin, Delvin; daughters-in-law; sons-in-law; 15 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brothers, PJ Normoyle, Clare, Jim, Mayo, Tom, Kerry; sisters, Sr Sheila, New York, USA And Eileen Cahill, Clare; sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

The funeral mass was celebrated in St Michael’s Church, Staholmog By Fr Houlihan, PP, Nobber, and Fr Byrne, PP, Kells, with burial in the adjoining cemetery.
