A native of Kildare, Mrs Duff was daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Muldoon. Deceased was well known in the village where she had worked behind the bar in Slane House for many years, and later Tallon's Pub until she retired. She always enjoyed chatting with customers and had a great sense of humour. She enjoyed her family, and delighted in her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs Duff will be remembered as a wonderful wife and mother and will be sadly missed. She is survived by her husband, Andrew; sons, Sean, Co Clare and Thomas, Birmingham, England; daughters, Patricia, Beauparc, Navan, Monica, Duleek; grandchildren, great grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and brothers- and sisters-in-law. The funeral took place from St Patrick's Church, Slane, to St Erc's Cemetery. ____________________________________________________________ Rose Fox, Kilmessan and Leitrim There was considerable sadness in the Kilmessan area with the news of the death of Mrs Rose Fox, formerly of Curtistown, in Co Leitrim, where she had moved with her husband, Frank, and family. A native of Prosperous, Co Kildare, Mrs Fox (nee Rock), was aged 65 and passed away following a lengthy illness. She and her husband, Frank, lived at Killeen, Dunsany, and later at Curtistown, Kilmessan, with sons Francis and Damien, before moving to her husband's native Leitrim over a decade ago, where they lived at Aughnaha, Rossinver. A sports lover, she was a keen supporter of the 'Lilywhites' of her native county and also enjoyed playing bingo. Her funeral took place from St Aidan's Church, Ballaghameehan, to Rossinver New Cemetery. ____________________________________________________________ Tom Hoey, Ashbourne There was widespread sadness following the recent passing of Mr Tom Hoey, Broadmeadow Road, Ashbourne, at his residence. A native of Demailestown, Wilkinstown, he died on 23rd November last, aged 74. He is survived by his wife, Teresa; sons, Jim and John; daughters, Mary and Terry; daughters-in-law, Sue and Nicola; son-in-law, Jeff, and John, partner of Mary; grandchildren, John and Anna; Michael and Stacey; Kelly, Rachel and Jeff; sisters, Kathleen and family, London; Mae and partner, Sean in London; Sheila and Ger and family of Demailstown; relatives, neighbours and friends. The funeral took place from the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Ashbourne to St Declan's Cemetery. A month's memory Mass will take place on Monday 1st January 2012 at 11am in Ashbourne Church. ____________________________________________________________ Sarah Alken, Dublin The Brindley family of Rathbeggan, Dunshaughlin, was bereaved last week with the passing of Mrs Sarah Alken, daughter of Basil and Maureen Brindley, formerly of Killeen Castle, Dunsany. Mrs Alken died on Sunday 11th December following a long and courageous battle with illness. She was wife of Greg Alken, director of Febvre and Company, the wine distributors, and is also survived by family, Sophie, Jennifer, Conor, step daughter, Emma, her parents, Basil and Maureen and siblings Julie, Tony, Berenice and Rosemary; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces, uncles, aunts and friends. Mrs Alken had been involved in the family company, Brindley Advertising, as a director. The funeral took place from the Church of the Assumption, Dalkey, to Newlands Cross Crematorium, on Wednesday last. Donations in her memory, if desired, can be made to MS Society or Irish Cancer Society. ____________________________________________________________ Kathleen Gallagher, Duleek The regretted death occurred on 29th October last of Mrs Kathleen Gallagher, Lougher, Duleek, at her residence, aged 66. Deceased was daughter of the late Mary and Joseph Shiels of Sicily, Duleek, and was also predeceased by three brothers, John, Joseph and James. Mrs Gallagher is survived by her husband, Sean; sons, Jason and Steve; daughter-in-law, Johanna; Eleanor, fiancee of Steve; grandchildren, Jack, Chloe, Samuel and Daniel, all Lougher; sister, Theresa Cournane, Navan and brother-in-law, Eamon; and brothers, Paddy, Garballagh, Duleek, and sister-in-law, Mary; and Oliver of Essex, England, and sister-in-law, Bina. The funeral took place from the Church of the Nativity, Rosnaree, with burial afterwards in Knockcommon cemetery. ____________________________________________________________ Louis Smyth, Kilskyre and Southampton The death took place in Southampton, England, of Mr Louis Smyth, formerly of Kilskyre, in November. Born in 1929, he emigrated to London and then to Southampton in the early 1950s. He always kept in touch with the affairs of his native county by reading the Meath Chronicle every week. He was involved in the GAA in Southampton, and travelled regularly to Wembley in the 1960s to see Meath, Cavan, and Galway play matches there. He was a lifetime member of the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association. Deceased is survived by his wife, Sylvia; sons, Gerard and Anthony; grandaughter, Poppy; brothers, Enda, Carlow, Jim, Dublin and Sean, Kilskyre. The burial took place in Southampton. ____________________________________________________________ Patrick Mahon, Athboy The regretted death has occurred of Mr Patrick (Patsy) Mahon, St Joseph's Villas, Athboy, at St Joseph's Hospital, Trim, aged 82. A native of Athboy, he was an employee of CIE all his working life, based in Kingscourt. He is survived by his God-daughter, Aisling Wright; friends and neighbours, Bernie and Robert Conway; Cynthia and Jimmy; Teresa and Joe; Joeen and Angela; John and Tara. The removal took place from Mullens' Funeral Home to St James's Church for Funeral Mass, and burial took place in St James's Cemetery.
