Gardai investigate large number of cars broken into in Navan area

Navan Gardai are investigating a spate of break-ins to cars in the area where 10 vehicles were targeted over a four-day period last week.

A silver Audi was broken into at the Rock Road, Walterstown, between 10am and 12.30pm on Saturday. A mobile phone was taken from the passenger seat. The same day, a Kia SUV was broken into at Balrath Woods between 10.20am and 11.45am. The front door was forced open and a wallet was taken from the vehicle.

On Friday, the window of another vehicle was smashed at Stackallen Pitch and Putt Club between 3pm and 3.15pm. A handbag was taken from under the passenger seat of the vehicle. Two young men were seen in the area and left in a black Ford Focus in the direction of Slane.

Gardai are investigating another break-in to a Citroen Berlingo van at the Bridge of the Boyne at Ardmulchan at around 3.40pm. A toolbox and a tax disc were taken from the vehicle. Some property that was taken from the vehicle at Stackallen Pitch and Putt Club a short time earlier was found in the area.

A Kia vehicle was broken into at Railway Street between 8.10pm and 8.20pm, also on 27th August, and a stereo was taken from the vehicle. A male was seen interfering with the vehicle. He is described as 17 years-old, 5ft 10 in height, of slim build and he was wearing a baseball cap and light-coloured clothing. He ran off in the direction of Cannon Row.

Two cars were broken into in Slane on Thursday 26th August between 2pm and 4pm, while the owners were attending a memorial Service. The cars were parked on the Navan Road.

A Hyundai Tucson jeep was broken into and a Garmin sat-nav was taken from the vehicle. A green Toyota Landcruiser was also broken into and a Sony Ericsson mobile phone and a small amount of cash were taken from the vehicle.

A Citroen Xsara was broken into at the Brú na Bóinne visitor centre, at Donore, on Wednesday 25th August between 2.30pm and 5pm. A laptop, iPod and Nokia mobile phone were taken. The laptop bag was found dumped a short time later at the M1 Retail Park on the outskirts of Drogheda.

Also on 25th August, a Fiat Scudo was broken into at the Navan Retail Park between 4pm and 5.30pm. The door was interfered with and an electric welder worth €300 was taken.

A car was also broken into at the Round O public house in Navan the same day between 12.45pm and 1.45pm. A laptop bag containing a Dell laptop computer was taken while the owner was attending a meeting in the pub. The laptop was later recovered on the N2.
