Moore funeral on Friday

The funeral takes place in Mucklagh, Co Offaly, on Friday 19th March of Peter Moore, a member of Meath's All-Ireland winning senior football team of 1967, who died on Monday morning. (The funeral and burial is not on Thursday, as erroneously stated in this week's edition of the Meath Chronicle). Even though he had been in ill health in recent years, Mr Moore (71), of Screggan Cross, Tullamore, passed away suddenly.

His remains are reposing at his residence, and the funeral Mass will take place at 12 noon on Thursday in St Colman's Church, Mucklagh, Tullamore, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Mr Moore was part of Meath's revival which began in 1964, with the first of the Royal County's four Leinster titles of that era, 1964, '66, '67 and '70. The highlight of this period for the centre fielder was the All-Ireland final win over Cork, and Meath had also reached the ultimate stage in 1966 and '70, when beaten by Galway and Kerry respectively.

He took part in the famous groundbreaking trip to Australia in 1968, and also played in New York and Wembley Stadium, London.

Mr Moore bowed out in 1970, after playing in the Grounds Tournament, a popular challenge tournament in the sixties and seventies, when All-Ireland semi-finalists played the team they didn't meet in their own semi-final. Meath played Derry.

Deceased lived at Tullamore where he worked with Bord na Mona, spending a great deal of his career at the Boora works. He is survived by his wife, Anne; sons, Alan and Pat; brothers, Neddy, Fr Dan, Paddy and John; sisters, Phyllis, Anne, and Breda, extended family, relatives and friends.
