Another British Comedy Award for Sharon Horgan

Bellewstown's Sharon Horgan was celebrating success again at the British Comedy Awards at the weekend.

Her BBC comedy 'Pulling: Special' scooped the Best Television Comedy Drama award at the Jonathon Ross-hosted ceremony in London on Saturday night.

Horgan created and wrote the 'Pulling' series, as well as performing in it, and won a Best Comedy Actress award at last year's ceremony. This year, she saw off E4's 'Dead Set' and BBC's 'Psychoville' for the award for best comedy drama on television.

It was a good weekend for the Horgan family as her brother, Irish International rugby player Shane, led Leinster's scoring with a try over Scarlets in the Heineken Cup on Saturday.

Also at the British Comedy Awards, Griff Rhys Jones presented the Ronnie Barker/Writers' Guild of Great Britain Award to Graham Linehan for his outstanding work in comedy. Both with his long-time writing partner, Arthur Mathews, and by himself, Linehan is responsible for creating shows such as 'Father Ted', Ted and Ralph from the 'Fast Show', and 'The IT Crowd'.

Linehan thanked Arthur Mathews and many of the others he's worked with; as well as his mother, who was in the audience, and who was the inspiration for Father Ted's housekeeper, Mrs Doyle.

Sir Terry Wogan, who thought he was only there to present a prize, was stunned to find himself the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award.
