Lynx effect is definitely working in Tayto Park

Tayto Park rangers were delighted with the recent arrival of three Eurasian Lynx cubs to mum Lana and dad Khan who have proved to be doting parents.

Staff will have to wait for three months before vets determine the sex of the cubs but all are incredibly playful and have become firm favourites with visitors to the Kilbrew park.

And there was more good news with the safe arrival of a Japanese Crane chick. The species is classified as endangered and although the population in Japan is stable, the mainland Asian population continues to decline owing to loss and degradation of wetlands through conversion to agriculture and industrial development.

The Crane chick’s parents are father Hiroto and mother Sora, both nine years old. This is the first time they’ve bred. The chick has been named - Asako for ‘morning child’.

Tayto Park’s ever expanding animal population was further boosted with an Alpaca born in the last month. Two male silvery marmosets have settled in extremely well while two new carnivores known as Fossa which are native to Madagascar are expected in the coming weeks.

All these new animal arrivals coincide with the arrival of Fossetts for the summer and new attractions such as Endeavour and Windstar.
