Sharon Keogan (Independent)

Sharon Keogan, Duleek, is contesting the general election as an independent candidate. She is a campaigner for issues at community level in her own area of Duleek and previously in Curraha. Orginally from Cavan, she is a niece of the famous 'Gunner' Brady and has been involved in politics since 1994 at both local and national level, having been a member of the Fianna Fail National Executive until recently. She was appointed a Peace Commissioner in July 2008. Ms Keogan says this election will be very much a team effort with help from her partner, Cllr Seamus O'Neill, an independent county councillor representing the Slane Electoral Area, and together they have run a full-time consitituency office in Duleek since June 2009. She says a strong independent voice in Dail Eireann is exactly what is needed for Meath East at this time. "I'm looking forward to the campaign. There are a lot of very serious issues this country has to deal with right now. A lot of people are suffering. I see it every day. "While the problems are complex, the solutions are quite practical, but these require vision, leadership and a conviction to stay the course."
