Edward Cosgrave

Navan actor in 'Storyland' drama final

Navan actor Edward Cosgrave is one of the performers in a comedy drama currently in the finals of the RTE storyland competition, which ends next Tuesday. 'The Last Security Man' follows the exploits of the unlikely pairing of Tommy, a college drop-out (Ciaran O'Brian) and Liam Hourican's Dirk, psychotic security man. Episode 3 saw Edward Cosgrave, playing Detective Spearin, and Fair City stars Gemma Doorly and Enda Oates joining the cast as they navigate the unhinged world of Dirk de Smet. In the final episode, as things spiral out of control and the noose tightens, Dirk and Tommy hole up in Bettystown, as Dirk attempts to escape the clutches of the Emergency Response Unit? Episode 4 will premiere online on 25 May at www.rte.ie/storyland. Viewers then have until 2pm on Tuesday 31 May to vote for The Last Security Man to win the competition. If the team wins, they will be commissioned to follow-up with a six part series for RTE. It is produced by Cathal Watters of Odyssey Media, and Rachel Lysaght from Athboy, of Underground Films, who enjoyed recents success with 'The Pipe'. 'IT Crowd' and 'The Savage Eye' star Liam Hourican is behind the creation of Dirk de Smet, a psychotic Belgian security guard working in a Dublin shopping centre. Since February, 'The Last Security Man' has been battling it out for the title of best web drama. Selected from an initial 120 entries, it is one of only eight finalists to reach the production stage of the RTÉ StoryLand competition, whose previous winners include 'Hardy Bucks' and 'Zombie Bashers'. Edward Cosgrave is also appearing in some episodes of 'Camelot' currently being shown on RTE and Channel 4, playing the part of the shebeen owner Borins, in scenes opposite Joseph Fiennes, Eva Green, Sinead Cusack and Jamie Cambell Bower of 'Twilight' fame.
