Hannigan headlines Folk Club in Navan

Lisa Hannigan, one of Ireland's finest musicians and songwriters is performing at The Lantern on Watergate Street, Navan, on Wednesday next, 19th September, as part of the now celebrated Navan Folk Club. She joins Canadian singer Doug Paisley, local musician Anthony Cregan and Waterford musician Liam Merriman. Oisin Leech from The Lost Brothers will be DJing and the house poet for this special event is the legendary Peter Fallon.

The sold-out night of music is part of a series of unique folk clubs that having been bringing celebrated Irish and international artists to Navan over the last two years. 
Co-founder of Joey Procida's Folk Club Oisin Leech is thrilled to have Lisa Hannigan joining an already brilliant bill.
"Lisa's songs and singing really are sublime and in the world of performance and songwriting she really is as good as it gets" says Oisin. "It's an added bonus that she is a Meath born artist! I'm excited about Wednesday because it's shaping up to be a whopper."

Since 2008 Kilcloon native Hannigan has released three critically acclaimed albums Sew (2008), Passenger (2011) and At Swim (2016). Her work has been nominated for the Mercury Music Awards and several Choice Music Awards. She has performed on the BBC 2's Jools Holland Show and has even collaborated with legendary artists such as Herbie Hancock. She has contributed widely to film and tv including singing on the Fargo TV series.
The Folk Club has invited international acts over the last two years. American artist Willy Mason wowed crowds at the last folk club in March and on 19th September Canada's Doug Paisley is sharing the bill with Lisa Hannigan in Navan.

Doug Paisley is a multi award winning singer who has toured with Feist and Glen Hansard to name but a few.
The Rolling Stone Magazine described Doug Paisley's 2010 album Constant Companion as "one of the best singer songwriter albums of the year" and The New Yorker describes him as "a quiet wonder".
He has collaborated with the Band's Garth Hudson who toured and recorded with Bob Dylan for over twenty years. Doug Paisley makes his Meath debut and this is a concert not to be missed.

 "I heard Doug Paisley sing in Athens Ohio a few years back. He is really brilliant. Navan has to hear him!" says Joey Procida himself.

Also performing in The Lantern is local legend Anthony "Toby" Cregan who has been a remarkable Meath talent for decades from his work in Little Palace to playing locally with The Frogs. Toby's guitar playing is widely celebrated.

Publisher and celebrated Meath poet Peter Fallon will be reading at this special event. Peter has published and collaborated with many of Ireland's greatest writers including the late Seamus Heaney. Peter's work in Gallery Press has taken him around the world and home again to Meath.

From Waterford, Ireland, Liam Merriman has been a significant presence on the live music circuit over many years. His songs have been released by Polygram Records Ireland, RTE Records and Three Rivers independent recording label. His work has also been released by Cohesion Arts in America as a contributing writer, and artist on the acclaimed 1861 Project. He has made numerous TV appearances and his songs have been airplayed and playlisted on national, regional and local radio stations in Ireland and overseas. Hot Press, Ireland's leading music magazine described Liam's songwriting in a four star album review as: "inspired by Gordon Lightfoot and Paul Simon... adding his own contemporary polish and a subtle Irish twist... reinforces Merriman as a premier league songwriter".

"The Folk Club started in Beggys two years ago, then we had a few great nights in The Central" says Oisin Leech. "Our world tour of Navan continues to The Lantern where the Backroom works great. The idea is to invite local artists, well known international artists and maybe some artists that are less well known in Meath but whom I hope the Meath music lovers will enjoy."
