Willy Mason in Navan for Folk Club Special

Acclaimed US singer Willy Mason comes to Navan for a Folk Club Special at The Lantern, Watergate Street, on Monday 5th March,  joined by local legends Paul Clarke, Pilgrim Street and many more. Co- organiser Oisin Leech of The Lost Brothers promises a special night.

"In 2006 I saw Willy Mason tour with Radiohead. It was mind blowing. It's just unbelievable that he is bringing his songs and his band to Navan," he says.

The Folk Club is in its second year and has become a great night of entertainment in Meath.
Willy Mason joins a list of international acts that have played the Navan night and he has toured the world extensively with the likes of Bright Eyes, Mumford And Sons and Conor Oberst. His song Oxygen charted internationally both in the UK and US.
Willy Mason will have a full band with him and an exemplary night of music is guaranteed. "To have Willy Mason coming to gig in Meath is incredible," Oisin says.

"The Folk Club is on a world tour of Navan" quips Oisin. "We started in Beggys, moved up to The Central which were both magical venues. Now we need room for a full band onstage so we are moving down the hill to the backroom in The Lantern."

Innovative and melodic bluegrass legends Pilgrim St have been added to the bill. Peadar Farrelly and the lads are selling out theatres nationwide and they will bring a brilliant sound to the night. They will perform old classics and brand new songs on the night.

Also on the bill is Sive whose songs have wowed audiences at Other Voices in Dingle. Her set will be completely unique.
Paul Clarke junior and Paul Clarke Snr will play a mix of brand new original and traditional songs. Paul Clarke jnr is part of seminal Navan band Red Queen Contest but at the Folk Club will showcase brand new original songs. Paul Clarke Snr has played music professionally since the 1960s and toured in showbands across Ireland and the UK. He spent time in London and Liverpool and knows the history of live music in Navan better than anyone else. "We are hoping Paul will tell stories on the night about the history of rock n roll in Navan. No one knows the history better than Paul" says Joey Procida, co-organiser of the night.

House poet is Peter Fallon who has performed at every folk club since its beginning. He has been a seminal part of Irish art and culture since the 1960s as publisher to poets such as Seamus Heaney. Peter's own poetry has gained him international recognition.

"There's a team of local people who make the Folk Club happen. It has become a really special night" says Oisin.
